A support trooper who makes everyone else more accurate.
Threat File — T'au Markerlight Spotter
TR 4 · T'au EmpireProficiencies: Awareness +5, Tech +4
Stabilized Optics. The spotter's markerlight cannot be broken by Suppression while it remains in Heavy Cover.
Painted Target. A creature the spotter marks counts as Exposed against T'au ranged attacks until the mark ends.
Unassuming Profile. The spotter carries almost nothing that kills. Attackers must succeed on an Awareness check DC 12 or spend an action to distinguish it from ordinary troopers.
Sustained Mark. The spotter marks one visible creature. The mark persists while the spotter concentrates and keeps line of sight; if the target falls or breaks line of sight, the spotter may shift the mark to a new target at the start of its next turn.
Pulse Pistol. Ranged Attack: +4 to hit, range 30/90 ft., one target. Hit: 1d6 + 1 energy damage.
Morale: Retreats immediately when directly targeted; will not hold a position that has been identified.
Tactics: Stay in Heavy Cover behind the gun line and mark whichever enemy is Exposed. If the party ignores the spotter, every T'au gun stays accurate; if they hunt it, they cross Fire Lanes to reach it.
Loot / Evidence / Hooks: Precision optics and a cadre uplink worth more to an enginseer than any weapon on the field.
Enemy Dossier
GM ReferenceA dedicated markerlight operator attached to fire teams and gun lines, the spotter turns disciplined volleys into surgical ones. It carries almost nothing that kills and is the most dangerous thing on its side of the field.
Use this enemy to teach the party target priority: leave the spotter alive and every T'au gun becomes accurate.
Threat Profile: Low durability, negligible direct damage, heavy accuracy support, hides behind the gun line, priority target.
Stabilized Optics. Its markerlight cannot be broken by Suppression while it remains in Heavy Cover.
Painted Target. A target it marks counts as Exposed against T'au ranged attacks until the mark ends.
Unassuming Profile. Attackers must spend an action or a successful Awareness check to distinguish it from ordinary troopers.
Sustained Mark. Marks one target; the mark persists while the spotter concentrates.
Shift Priority. Moves its mark to a new target the moment the first one falls or breaks line of sight.
Fade Back. Withdraws behind the fire team, keeping the mark active if it does not run.
Morale: Retreats immediately when directly targeted; will not hold a position that has been identified.
Tactics: Keep the spotter in Heavy Cover behind the shooting line and mark whichever party member is Exposed. If the party ignores it, escalate the accuracy bonus until they learn. Once they hunt it, make them pay a crossing under Fire Lanes to reach it.
