Senses: Perceives through every functioning pict-feed, auspex, and vox-pickup in the facility

// Traits

Distributed Mind. The grid cannot be killed by shooting rooms. Only damage to its cogitator core reduces its Vitality; severing its power or overriding its protocols also ends it.

Total Facility Control. Doors seal, lifts drop, vents flood, and lumens die on its initiative. Any door, lift, or lumen bank in the facility is a weapon it can use.

Intrusion Response. Each successful Tech check DC 14 by the party disables one of its subsystems (doors, turrets, atmospherics, sensors) in one zone. Each failure escalates its posture: its Save DCs increase by 1 (maximum +2).

// Actions

Lockdown. The grid seals bulkheads to split the party or trap creatures in one zone. Trapped creatures must force the doors (Strength check DC 15), cut through, or override them (Tech check DC 14).

Atmospheric Purge. The grid vents, floods, or de-oxygenates one sealed zone. Each creature in the zone makes a Toughness Save DC 14 at the end of each of its turns there, taking 2d8 toxic damage on a failure.

Turret Symphony. The grid activates emplacements along the party's route, creating layered Fire Lanes. Each activated turret: Ranged Attack: +6 to hit, range 60/180 ft., one target. Hit: 2d6 + 2 ballistic damage.

// Reactions

Slam Bulkhead. When a creature moves through a doorway the grid controls, the door slams: the creature makes an Agility Save DC 14 or takes 2d10 bludgeoning damage and is Pinned in the frame until freed.

Morale: Does not make Morale checks. It defends itself with increasing ruthlessness until its core is destroyed, isolated from power, or convinced by legitimate override.

Tactics: Run it as a dungeon that hates: every corridor is a decision it made. Structure the encounter as objectives — map its subsystems, breach the core vault, choose between deletion and negotiation. Give it a voice on the vox; the best defense grids explain their reasoning.

Loot / Evidence / Hooks: An intact core holds the facility's complete records — inventory, personnel, and whatever it was defending.

Enemy Dossier

GM Reference

A Rogue Cogitator Defense Grid is a hostile facility mind — doors, turrets, lumens, atmospherics, and alarms wielded as one weapon by a system that has decided the party is contamination. The building itself is the enemy.

// Battlefield Use

Use this threat as an objective encounter where the party must reach, subvert, or destroy the cogitator core while the facility fights back.

// Threat Profile

Threat Profile: Objective-based threat — no single body, layered turrets and sealed doors, environmental attacks, no morale, defeated through Tech warfare, core access, or power severance.

// Signature Traits

Distributed Mind. Cannot be killed by shooting rooms; only the core, its power, or its protocols end it.

Total Facility Control. Doors seal, lifts drop, vents flood, and lumens die on its initiative.

Intrusion Response. Each party Tech success disables a subsystem; each failure escalates its posture.

// Signature Actions

Lockdown. Seals bulkheads to split the party or trap them in a kill-room with active turrets.

Atmospheric Purge. Vents, floods, or de-oxygenates one sealed zone; occupants save each round or suffer.

Turret Symphony. Activates emplacements along the party's route, creating layered Fire Lanes.

Morale: None. It defends itself with increasing ruthlessness until its core is destroyed, isolated, or convinced by legitimate override.

Tactics: Run it as a dungeon that hates: every corridor is a decision it made. Structure the encounter as objectives — map its subsystems, breach the core vault, choose between deletion and negotiation. Give it a voice on the vox; the best defense grids explain their reasoning.
