Threat File — Mirror-Masked Liar
TR 4 · Chaos God-Aligned CultsProficiencies: Deception +6, Stealth +4, Awareness +3
The Borrowed Face. The liar's mask shows each viewer someone plausible. Penetrating it requires an Awareness check DC 15, psychic sight, or catching it in a contradiction.
Poisoned Testimony. Every NPC who spoke with the liar recently holds one false belief it planted; the party inherits these problems at speed.
Never the Aggressor. Attacks against the liar in public read to bystanders as unprovoked assault on whoever it appears to be; expect intervention, alarms, and testimony.
Concealed Stiletto. Melee Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d6 + 2 piercing damage. The attack has Advantage against a target that currently believes the liar is an ally.
Word in the Ear. One NPC or enemy within 30 feet makes a Willpower Save DC 12 or acts on a lie of the GM's choosing: shifts targets, opens a door, abandons a post. Nothing directly self-destructive.
Mirror Break. The liar drops the mask deliberately. Every enemy that sees the truth beneath makes a Willpower Save DC 12 or is Frightened until the end of its next turn.
Morale: Never fights past the first real wound; it escapes through bystanders, and the escape has usually been arranged since before the party arrived.
Tactics: Introduce it early as someone helpful, and spend that trust at the worst moment. In combat it is trivial to kill and nearly impossible to be certain of — the fight is the identification. Its true victory condition is the party mistrusting every NPC after it is gone.
Loot / Evidence / Hooks: The mirror mask itself, which shows whoever holds it up a face they would trust.
Enemy Dossier
GM ReferenceThe Mirror-Masked Liar is a social threat that turns witnesses into problems — a face-stealing manipulator whose battlefield is testimony, trust, and the party's reputation. When it does fight, it fights wearing someone else's face.
Use this enemy in investigation and social arcs, or mid-combat as the ally who was never the ally.
Low durability, minimal direct combat, identity theft and social sabotage, infiltration, catastrophic if undetected — a knife made of credibility.
