A campaign-level wildlife threat that owns the terrain.
Threat File — Death World Apex Beast
TR 13 · Beasts & Death World HorrorsSaves: Strength +12, Toughness +11, Willpower +7
Proficiencies: Awareness +8, Stealth +7 (its own territory)
Senses: Sees normally in total darkness, Knows every approach, scent, and sound within its territory
Lord of the Territory. Within its range the beast knows every approach: ambushes against it fail without exceptional planning, and it always attacks from advantage — high ground, cover, weather, dark. It cannot be surprised in its own territory.
Colossal Vitality. The beast reduces all damage from small arms and single-target attacks by 5. Heavy weapons, prepared traps, and the terrain itself turned against it ignore this reduction. Driving it from the field without killing it is a legitimate victory; it heals in its deep lair and the arc continues.
Apex Dread. When the beast roars (once per round, no action), every enemy on the battlefield makes a Willpower Save DC 17 or is Frightened until the end of its next turn. Lesser beasts flee the area entirely, which is itself the warning sign.
Annihilating Charge. The beast moves up to its Movement in a straight line, crashing through cover, trees, and walls. Each creature in its path makes an Agility Save DC 17, taking 4d10 + 8 bludgeoning damage and falling Prone on a failure, or half damage on a success. Structures in the line are destroyed.
Rending Maw. Melee Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target or vehicle. Hit: 3d10 + 8 rending damage; against a Prone target this attack scores a critical hit on an 18-20. A vehicle hit loses a system of the GM's choice.
Earth-Shaker Slam. The beast strikes the ground. Each creature within 15 feet makes an Agility Save DC 17 or takes 2d10 + 8 bludgeoning damage and is knocked Prone; the area becomes difficult terrain of collapsed footing.
Retaliatory Swipe. When a creature within 10 feet damages the beast, the beast may make one Rending Maw attack against it.
Morale: Territorial, not suicidal: withdraws from wounds that threaten its life, heals in its deep lair, and returns with a grudge and a learned respect for whatever hurt it.
Tactics: Run the beast as a campaign objective, not a stand-up fight: the party must scout its territory, prepare killing ground, bait its patterns, and turn terrain — cliffs, bogs, colony guns, wildfire — into their real weapon. Stage the fight in phases: first blood, its retaliation on the party's camp or the colony, and the final confrontation on ground one side chose.
Loot / Evidence / Hooks: Its skull is worth a governor's ransom as trophy or relic, and its lair-hoard of crushed vehicles and old hunters' wargear includes whatever heavy weapon the last regiment lost trying.
Enemy Dossier
GM ReferenceA Death World Apex Beast is the summit of an ecosystem where everything kills: a territorial monster of siege-grade mass and predatory intelligence that regiments name in their reports and avoid in their route planning. It does not live on the terrain; the terrain has arranged itself around surviving it.
Use this threat as the centerpiece of a wilderness campaign arc — a hunt, a siege of a beast's territory, or the ancient reason the colony's outer wall exists.
Boss-grade durability, catastrophic melee, terrain-scale mobility and destruction, fear aura, territorial cunning, objective-grade encounter design recommended.
Lord of the Territory. Within its range it knows every approach: ambushes fail without exceptional planning, and it always attacks from advantage — high ground, cover, weather, dark.
Colossal Vitality. Small-arms fire is an irritant; meaningful wounds require heavy weapons, prepared traps, or the terrain itself turned against it.
Apex Dread. Its roar forces Morale checks across the battlefield; lesser beasts flee the area entirely, which is itself the warning sign.
Annihilating Charge. Crashes through cover, trees, and walls in a line: massive damage, structures destroyed, survivors prone.
Rending Maw. Bite that can disable a vehicle or delete a fighter; against prone targets, doubled critical range.
Earth-Shaker Slam. Ground strike in an area: damage, knockdown, and collapsed footing that becomes difficult terrain.
Morale: Territorial, not suicidal: withdraws from wounds that threaten its life, heals in its deep lair, and returns with a grudge and a learned respect for whatever hurt it.
Tactics: Run the beast as a campaign objective, not a stand-up fight: the party must scout its territory, prepare killing ground, bait its patterns, and turn terrain — cliffs, bogs, colony guns, wildfire — into their real weapon; rifles alone should read as a will, not a plan. Stage the fight in phases across its territory: first blood, its retaliation on the party's camp or the colony, and the final confrontation on ground one side chose. If they merely drive it off, the arc continues — it heals faster than a colony does.
