C'tan Shard of Burning Hunger
A shard themed around stellar appetite and burning matter.
Threat File — C'tan Shard of Burning Hunger
TR 18 · C'tan ShardsSaves: Toughness +14, Willpower +13
Senses: Senses every flame, fuel source, and heat signature within 300 feet
Feeds on Fire. Fire, plasma, and melta damage heal the shard instead of harming it. Its attacks deal an extra 1d10 fire damage for each burning terrain zone on the battlefield (maximum +3d10).
Consuming Radiance. Creatures that end their turn within 15 feet of the shard take 2d10 fire damage, and cover within that radius chars away to nothing at the end of each round.
Starvation Weakness. This is the objective: if no burning terrain or fuel source lies within 60 feet of the shard for a full round - vented atmosphere, purged fuel lines, quenched fires - its Defense drops to 18, its speed halves, and it becomes dim enough to bind or contain. Reduced to 0 Vitality while fed, it disperses and reignites elsewhere.
Devouring Flame. The shard exhales stellar fire in a 60-foot cone. Creatures in the cone make an Agility Save DC 20, taking 6d10 fire damage on a failure or half on a success. Terrain in the cone ignites, and the burned zone becomes its food.
Swallow the Blaze. The shard consumes one burning terrain zone or fuel source within 60 feet: the fire goes out, the shard regains 4d10 Vitality, and its next attack deals an extra 2d10 fire damage.
Solar Flare Step. The shard teleports to any burning terrain zone within 120 feet, arriving in an eruption. Creatures within 10 feet of the arrival point make an Agility Save DC 20 or take 3d10 fire damage.
Jealous Hunger. When a creature extinguishes a burning zone or destroys a fuel source within 60 feet, the shard may immediately move up to its speed toward that creature.
Morale: Does not make Morale checks - only hunger. It disengages from combat solely to reach richer fuel, and it always knows where the fuel is.
Tactics: Run this as a starvation objective: the party cuts its food chain - vent the deck, purge the lines, collapse the burning stacks - while it grows hotter every round they fail. Direct combat should feel like feeding it, because it often literally is. The finale is a cold, dark room and a dimmed god small enough to bind.
Loot / Evidence / Hooks: The starved shard itself is the prize: a bound ember of a star-god that three factions will start wars to hold.
Enemy Dossier
GM ReferenceThe C'tan Shard of Burning Hunger is stellar appetite given a shape: it eats heat, fuel, flesh, and eventually the atmosphere of the room, burning brighter with every mouthful. Encounters with it are measured in what remains uneaten.
Use this threat when the battlefield itself should be on fire and getting worse — refineries, star-forges, promethium depots, anywhere it can feed.
Boss-grade threat, escalating flame damage that grows as it feeds, terrain immolation, objective-based defeat, starvation as the core counter-mechanic.
Feeds on Fire. Flame, plasma, and melta attacks heal it; every burning terrain zone on the map makes its attacks hit harder.
Consuming Radiance. Creatures ending their turn near it take heat damage and cover near it chars away to nothing over rounds.
Starvation Weakness. Denied fuel — vented atmosphere, quenched fires, cold and vacuum — it dims, slows, and finally becomes containable.
Devouring Flame. Cone of stellar fire that ignites terrain and cooks armor; the burned zone becomes its food.
Swallow the Blaze. Consumes a burning zone or fuel source: regains Vitality and empowers its next attack.
Solar Flare Step. Teleports between fires, arriving in an eruption that scorches everything adjacent.
Morale: No morale, only hunger; it disengages from combat solely to reach richer fuel, and it always knows where the fuel is.
Tactics: Run this as a starvation objective: the party must cut its food chain — vent the deck, purge the fuel lines, collapse the burning stacks — while it grows hotter every round they fail. Direct combat should feel like feeding it, because it often literally is. The finale is a cold, dark room and a dimmed god small enough to bind.
