Senses: Sees normally in total darkness

// Traits

Technoarcana. The cryptek carries one working impossibility, chosen on deployment: a light-bending veil, a gravity snare, an entropic field, or a lightning array. This apparatus powers Deploy Apparatus and can be targeted and destroyed (Defense 14, Vitality 20) to end its effects.

Chronometric Insurance. The first time each scene the cryptek would be hit by an attack, it may declare it was never standing there; the attack misses.

// Actions

Staff of Light. Ranged Attack: +7 to hit, range 60/180 ft., one target. Hit: 2d10 + 3 energy damage, and the target loses 1 Defense as armor is burned away (until repaired).

Deploy Apparatus. The cryptek activates its technoarcana, centering a 20-foot zone of altered rules where the party least wants it until the end of its next turn: lightless (creatures inside are Blinded beyond 5 feet), crushing (difficult terrain; Strength Save DC 15 to stand from Prone), entropic (weapons that attack from inside jam on an attack roll of 5 or less), or electrified (creatures starting their turn inside make an Agility Save DC 15 or take 2d8 energy damage).

Field Recalibration. Until the start of the cryptek's next turn, Necrons within 30 feet gain +1 Defense from flickering shield harmonics, and their Reanimation Protocol rolls succeed on a 4-6 instead of a 5-6.

Morale: Does not make Morale checks. It withdraws when the data is gathered or the asset is at risk, cataloguing the party's weapons as it goes.

Tactics: The cryptek's job is to make the battlefield stop obeying the party: kill their light, their footing, or their cover while warriors advance. Screen it behind Immortals or Lychguard and make its apparatus a destructible objective. Its death should return the laws of physics to the room.

Loot / Evidence / Hooks: The apparatus is a working impossibility — a device any Magos would kill for, and several will.

Enemy Dossier

GM Reference

A Cryptek is a scientist of the dynasties whose instruments do things Imperial savants would call sorcery and then execute you for describing. It does not cast; it operates equipment the universe is not ready for.

// Battlefield Use

Use this enemy when a Necron force needs weird-science support — shields, energy manipulation, and battlefield rules quietly rewritten.

// Threat Profile

Moderate durability, dangerous energy attacks, battlefield-warping support technology, reanimation support, priority target behind elite screens.

// Signature Traits

Technoarcana. Each Cryptek carries one working impossibility: a light-bending veil, a gravity snare, an entropic field, or a lightning array. Choose on deployment.

Chronometric Insurance. The first time each scene the Cryptek would be hit by an attack, it may declare it was never standing there; the attack misses.

// Signature Actions

Staff of Light. Arcing energy blasts with respectable range and armor-burning damage.

Deploy Apparatus. Activates its technoarcana: a zone of altered rules (dark, heavy, entropic, or electrified) centered where the party least wants it.

Field Recalibration. Improves nearby Necron reanimation or shielding until its next turn.

Morale: None; it withdraws when the data is gathered or the asset is at risk, cataloguing the party's weapons as it goes.

Tactics: The Cryptek's job is to make the battlefield stop obeying the party: kill their light, their footing, or their cover while warriors advance. Screen it behind Immortals or Lychguard and make its apparatus a destructible objective. Its death should return the laws of physics to the room.
