Cabal Magister
A cult mastermind who weaponizes secrets, mutations, and timing.
Threat File — Cabal Magister
TR 9 · Chaos God-Aligned CultsSaves: Willpower +8, Intellect +8
Proficiencies: Deception +8, Lore +8
The Script. The battlefield is prepared: sigils, decoys, sight-lines, and timed events keyed to the party's predictable choices. The GM should pre-place three scripted surprises before the fight begins.
Ninefold Contingency. The first two times the Magister would be reduced to 0 Vitality, a contingency fires instead: a decoy body of screaming birds, a swap with a masked servant, a fated near-miss. Clues planted earlier in the arc can let clever players pre-burn a contingency.
Architect of the Cell. All cult allies present act on the Magister's initiative and lie fluently about everything, even mid-death.
Bolt of Change. Ranged Attack: +8 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 3d10 + 4 warp damage. A creature killed by this attack is changed rather than merely slain; what remains is the GM's problem to describe.
Recast the Board. The Magister teleports itself and up to two allies within 30 feet to prepared positions anywhere on the battlefield. The battle's geometry stops being trustworthy.
Sentence of Mutation. One enemy within 60 feet makes a Willpower Save DC 15 or suffers an escalating mutation for the scene: Disadvantage on its next turn, then -2 Defense, then -10 ft. Movement, one step per round while the Magister narrates its findings.
Just As Planned. Once per round, when an enemy completes an action, the Magister reveals a prepared counter: a ward that absorbs the effect, an ambusher who was always there, a floor that was never real. The counter negates or redirects the action's result.
Morale: Never fights to the death — death is someone else's role in the plan. It departs at the scripted moment, and the party's real victory is forcing an unscripted one.
Tactics: Run the fight as the Magister's set-piece: scripted interruptions, repositioning, and mid-battle revelations of true, prepared secrets that attack the party's cohesion. When something genuinely unscripted happens, let the mask of serenity crack; that crack is the campaign's reward.
Loot / Evidence / Hooks: Dossiers on the party themselves, annotated with predictions — most correct, one deliberately wrong.
Enemy Dossier
GM ReferenceThe Cabal Magister is a cult mastermind who weaponizes secrets, mutations, and timing — the author of every lie the party has caught this arc and several they have not. By the time it fights them personally, the fight is the plan's final page.
Use this threat as the boss of a Tzeentchian intrigue arc, in a battle it has scripted down to the party's likely entrances.
Boss-tier psychic power, prepared-battlefield control, probability manipulation, contingency layers, escape redundancy — the fight is a puzzle wearing a duel's clothing.

Bolt of Change. Devastating psychic attack; a killing blow with it leaves something changed rather than a corpse.

Sentence of Mutation. One enemy saves against Willpower or suffers an escalating mutation for the scene; the Magister narrates its findings.
The Reveal. Discloses a true, prepared secret about a party member or ally; all who hear it save against Willpower or are shaken as the words land.

Tactics: Run the fight as the Magister's set-piece: scripted interruptions, repositioning, and revelations that attack the party's cohesion. Its contingencies make the first two 'kills' hollow — plant clues beforehand so clever players can pre-burn them, which is the intended winning line.
